South America 2025 – #16 – Peru – Huayhuash Trek #7

Seventh day of our 8 day trek of Huayhuash. Start at 4300m elevation. The goal for this day was to hike around 14km to the seventh campsite Jahuacocha via the the seventh of 8 passes named Yaucha at 4850m of elevation.

And another day with clear skies and fantastic weather! Hiking from 4300m via the Yaucha pass to an INCREDIBLE panorama. This is also one the highlights from the trek. The views from the viewpoints shortly after the pass are very impressive.

When we started Kerstin started to feel better and we opted for hiking up the pass, as it was not the steepest one. She felt way better and was able to hike with me.

Continuing along the ridge with very high winds we had amazing views of the mountain range. At some point we reached the spectacular viewpoint of the Jahuacocha lagoon protected from the wind.

After 1-2h we continued to hike down to the last campsite Gashpapampa at 4300m.

In the evening our guide prepared a birthday cake for my wife and made some fresh popcorn 😉

We had an amazing sunset and stars.
