South America 2025 – #15 – Peru – Huayhuash Trek #6

Sixth day of our 8 day trek of Huayhuash. Start at 3490m elevation. The goal for this day was to hike around 14km to the sixth campsite Gashpapampa via the sixth of 8 passes named Tapush at 4770m of elevation.

Another day with clear skies and fantastic weather! This day was a hard one with an elevation gain of 1280m.

Kerstin still felt not good so we decided for her to go up to the pass on a horse.

I started to hike with the guide. The horse and the donkeys started a bit later. After about 2h in the trek we met at the first nice spot of this part of the trek. In the beginning its just hiking up an narrow valley until about 4200m when the scenery opens up.

We then met again at the Tapush pass at 4770m. There is a nice lagoon nearby named Laguna Susococha. From there it was about another 1,5h to the next campsite Gashpapampa at 4550m elevation.
