South America 2025 – #02 – Bolivia – Sajama National Park

23.04.2025
We arrived at La Paz from Lima via plane. La Paz is located at an elevation of 4000m. When we arrived we felt the height straight away. After waiting ages for our rental car we started our drive to Sajama National Park. The height there is 4200m-4400m.
Note: Be careful when driving there. Gas stations are sparse. Plus at the time we been there they had a gasolina crisis. In Sajama itself theres no gas station! We were able to find some gas womens in Patacamaya, 180km from Sajama. All Gas stations were closed due to the crisis.
In the beginning we had a hard time acclimatizing. Every step you walk is hard. You sleep not so well, have headaches and you are exhausted all the time.
In contrast the landscape is very beautiful. When we arrived we drove along the road through the so called Village ;), consisting of 20 houses, to the Laguna Huaynacota. Along the way we met Lamas and one of the highest mountains of Peru, Sajama.
For sunset we went to hot springs in the National Park with amazing views. These are located approx. 30 minutes from the village by car.
