Mont Blanc – Multi day hike along the TMB #1

17.09.2022

We decided to do a multi day hike in the area of Mont Blanc. We started by hiking with our tent and enough of food for a couple of days not knowing how many days we will hike.

On the way to Chamonix we stopped at Lago Geneva to relax our legs a bit.

We arrived in Chamonix at around 1PM. We decided to drive with a bus to Col des Montets and hike from there. Therefore we had to pack up very quickly because the bus towards there (Number 2) only departs every half hour.

We managed to catch the bus at around 3:40PM. Unfortunately we had to leave the bus at the closest point near Col des Montets which added around 30 minutes to our hike. At this time of the year buses wont drive to our planned starting point.

We started to hike from Col des Montets all the way up to the Lac de Cheserys at around 5PM.

The bad: Almost the whole hike was in the shadows

The good: Amazing views of the glaciers and Mont Blanc!

The hike to the wonderful Lac de Cheserys is uphill only with an elevation gain of about 800m and a distance of around 5-6km.

We arrived at Lac de Cheserys at 8:30PM and it was cold instantly.

This night the freezing point was down at 1400hm meaning we had well below zero at 2200hm in our tent. The winds added to the cold.

Let me tell you: A good sleeping bag is needed! We had our zero degree Celsius rated down sleeping bags and it was waaay too cold. We slept with everything we had on us.

In the morning our tent was frozen from the inside.

Head on the the next part!
