La Reunion – Cap Noir at sunrise and Voile de la Mariee
06.12.2022
Another promising mountain weather forecast for the morning at Cap Noir (north west of the island). The drive to here is also curvy. The drive to the starting point is around 1,5h.
The car park is at 1150m elevation. We arrived just in time to start the walk to the viewpoint of Cap Noir. It takes about 10-15 minutes from the car park to the view point. As soon as you arrive you are rewarded with an amazing view.

Such a beautiful and dramatic sunrise. The clouds added lots of drama. After the sun was up we continued the easy roundtrip hike to Roche Verre Bouteille and back via the ridge.

The clouds arrived on time at around noon. We decided to drive around the island into another valley from the north by the name of Salazie. The weather there looked promising. The drive took around 1,5-2h. It is basically behind the ridge we were looking at. The road was so green and full of beautiful vegetation like huge bamboo. Totally different from the west and south. Makes sense as it rains a lot more on this side.
To get to the waterfall Voile de la Mariee you have to park your car on the road and cross the river. There are no signs. Nothing. Not the easiest path to find ;). Hike is about 20-30 minutes one way.

We ended the day by continuing the nice road up until Hellbourg, buying a nice cold Desperados đ
The views along the road were very nice. Highly recommended.
