Iceland 2021 – Part4: #16 Glaciers Reynisfjara and Skogar

09.07.2021

Drove all the way to Skogar with numerous stops at the impressive Skalafell, Reynisfjara and Skogafoss.

Well, this is Vestrahorn in the morning

Skalafell

To get to the glacier you have to hike about an hour to the base. The trail starts at the Guesthouse Skalafell and directs you over a steep hill to the tongue of the glacier. The drive from Vestrahorn is about one hour to the west.

Skalafell is massive.

Skalafell is huge

Reynisfjara

In the afternoon I continued to Reynisfjara, one of the most famous areas because of the beach and the basalt colums. It takes about 3 hours from Skalafell to Vik/Reynisfjara Beach.

I decided to stay the night at the Skogafoss campsite.
